The On-Board Computer is the heart of the space craft, it is the main computer, it commands the operation of the sensors, actuators, and payloads of the spacecraft.

On larger missions, the On-Board Computer will be redundant (a second On-Board Computer will be waiting to take over if the first one fails), and other components (e.g. MMU, payloads, complex actuators, ...) will have their own computers.
